Where to begin?

The Butter London varnishes never have been on my radar. Their exclusivity and price obviously just put me off, so I never really looked at their Nailcare products either.

Looking back now I have to scold myself I feel – I found a true gem in their nailcare range

Almost by accident I got both Nail Foundation and Quick Dry Top Coat by Butter London for reviewing purposes, some remarks on the Top Coat later on, I want to focus on the great Nail Foundation first.

Admittedly, I was rather unimpressed by the milky colour in the bottle and didn’t use it for a long time. Trying it for the first time, though, it was a small revelation – the fogginess doesn’t transfer onto the nail!

Whatever this Base Coat actually does, I cannot explain. In this aspect I find the name “Nail Foundation” very fitting!

The varnish applies like a smooth, perfect, new keratin layer of nail. Especially now, that I am battling chipping nails and hence slightly uneven nails at times, this Base Coat is a true miracle worker!

The finish is not shiny, btw. But not fully matte either – on the nail it looks more like a perfected real nail – slightly velvety. And that’s how it feels as well. If you are used to the usual, very shiny, smooth Base Coats, it is definitely something to get used to, personally I love it.

So, even if I don’t have any time at all to do my full manicure, I usually file and shorten my nails and apply a quick coat of the Nail Foundation – making the nails look perfected and natural. And no, I definitely am not blessed with perfect natural nails but here’s a picture of them naked anyway:

The Der Nail Foundation Base doesn’t just look good though, it also dries in seconds and keeps your manicure in check for days. With good nail polishes I have been wearing some manicures for up to 7 days without exceptional chipping of the varnish or excessive tip wear.

And about the Top Coat (no picture): As highly as I estimate the Nail Foundation – and I am sure some will disagree here! 🙂 – the Quick Dry Top Coat didn’t impress me as much after using it for a couple of times. The BTGN Top Sealer by essence dries quicker and shinier on me, for a fraction of the price. For this top coat I wouldn’t spend the £15 if I’m honest!

As opposed to this, I must say I find the asked price sort of justified. Even though £15 is not cheap for a base coat, I can recommend it. Who would’ve though I’d ever say such a thing! And yes, I am painfully aware of the fact that a base coat is easily used up, almost comparable to mascara! Forking out £15 for that is not as easy but the result is just too nice. Plus you get a fairly large quantity at 18g/17.5ml.

You can get the Butter London Nail Foundation at Amazon or Boots.

Have you ever tried any Butter London polishes? Maybe any of the nail care products even? What is your opinion on the value for money?

More heroes:

17,5ml Inhalt.

Butter London Nail Foundation erhältlich bei: Müller, Douglas, Amazon, Boots
