This product is fairly new in my collection – too new to even be in my latest New In post! – and already a Everyday-Hero?!

Why yes, deal with it 😀

To be honest, I actually believe I finally found my hands down favourite in the matter of contouring of the cheeks. Finding a bronzer/contour shade that is first of all matte and secondly not too orange for my quite fair skin is still almost impossible. Alright, whoever got a perfect bonestructure and divine cheekbones may stop reading here. As for everybody else: Read on-

Matte bronzers made their ways to the high street, yes, but that perfect ashy brown which simulates natural shadows, esp. on paler skintones, is hardly to be found. I’ve been sort of content with my matte bronzer selection before, I never contour too harshly anyway, but this product kept lurking at the back of my mind.

At a steep £17.50 this Cream Pigment certainly is not a bargain purchase which is why I hesitated for the longest time. But this past February I finally took heart and visited the Illamasqua store in London. Which is pretty impressive, and all the products on display are testers! Once you decided on a product they fetch it from a drawer. Quite nice actually. I also had the chance to watch and listen in on the make up artists present – who, if I may say so, seem to know their profession way better than the consultants at high end brands booths in Boots etc…

Many products tempted me but I decided to be a good girl (okay, the prices might have something to do with it too) and so I stuck with my one product Cream Pigment purchase:

This intensely colour-rich, matt and crease-resistant formula has been designed for use on the face, eyes, lips and body. Apply with an Illamasqua brush or simply use your fingers for a buildable, water-resistant, highly pigmented finish.

On an important side note: The surface of an untouched, new Hollow pigment is slightly lighter and more orange than the actual result (see swatch above). I added another picture at the very bottom of this post showing the difference of untouched surface vs. finger print, which looks more ashy.

Following my attempt to show the product applied – my bare moonface cheeks, Hollow unblended and blended. Yes, it does look slightly blotchy in the blended picture, but I assure you it is not. That’s it, I am just so talented in these face-close-up-check-out-my-pores pics.

After a few days of experimenting with the cream pigment I found that the easiest way to apply for me is just using my finger. Applying and carving out my cheekbones, actually. It turned out to be quicker than finding a brush, even though I can imagine a small stippling or round top kabuki brush doing the job very well. The product itself is quite solid, similar to Maybelline Color Tattoos’ texture, hence using the warmth of your fingers also increases its blendabilty.

The name and description give it away: You can most definitely use this product for the eyes as well. Which I haven’t tried so far since I’ve been loving it as my daily contour. Speaking of the colour tattoos, though, has anyone ever tried using the shade Permanent Taupe for contouring? Esp. people who find Hollow too warm on their complexion even might want to give the cream eyeshadow a shot. Weird, I never thought about that before!

Compared to other matte bronzers I’ve used to contour with before (hence rather non-orange, at least that’s what I thought!) Illamasqua clearly shows off its ashy shade. Clearly much cooler than the other bronzers shown – just don’t ask why Bourjois seems so streaky here – and certainly longer wearing. Hollow will stay on your skin for hours looking freshly applied.

Looking at the packaging for a roundup: It is fairly compact and made of sturdy plastic. The lid closes with a satisfying clicking sound but it is nothing too special or fancy in my eyes.

In the end I can only point out one drop of bitterness for this overall excellent products: The ingredients. Judging by the price and brand image they look rather cheap, slightly alarming the ingredient containing chrome. However, regarding the price again one should point out that you only need the tiniest amount per make up.

However, this pigment is now my first choice regarding contouring – even contouring the nose works easier and quicker with Hollow – so that I awarded it my Everyday-Hero label after only a few weeks! You can get it in store, on illamasqua.com or on Asos from time to time.

My first Everyday-Hero skin care product:

How do you like Illamasqua? What have you tried by them so far? Did you find your perfect contouring shade yet? If so, spill! 🙂

Deal with it 😀

This intensely colour-rich, matt and crease-resistant formula has been designed for use on the face, eyes, lips and body. Apply with an Illamasqua brush or simply use your fingers for a buildable, water-resistant, highly pigmented finish.
