Burt’s Bees: Colourful lip care

Coincidentially and punctual for the international kiss day on July 6 I have tinted lip products by Burt’s Bees all swatched out for you.

Despite my love for opaque, and matte lip colours, I do love my sheer and light lips for a change. I have always had a soft spot for Tinted Lip Balms, so I was really curious to see the new Lip Shimmer colours and Lip Glosses in person at the Beautypress Event last May.

Burt’s Bees philosophy just seems likeable and while I also received a few skincare products at the event – I wrote about a great exfoliator before, and I still love the standard Lip Balms, they don’t leave that greasy film on the lips – I do wonder how the Tinted Balms perform in that perspective.

I bought the shade Hibiscus ages ago but I thought it fitting to have all three of them pictured together again now. Click the link to read my review for that single colour.

Red Dahlia has been on my wishlist for absolutely ages. I usually found the shelf sold out of this shade whenever I checked so I gladly picked that one up, together with Caramel Daisy, an ever so slightly nude tinged balm which works perfectly to prep the lips for any lipstick or to go over lipsticks to give it some shine. And yes, they are actual lip balms! I have never experienced a drying feeling so far.

The Tinted Lip Balms carry a soft sweet scent which I honestly love in these! I usually have great problems with sweetish scents in products as they make me more nauseated than any other scents. The caps close tightly, they will hardly open accidentally in your purse. On a positive sidenote: The twist up works well and has not given in in any of my shades so far.

Somewhat surprisingly, Hibiscus seemingly is the most pigmented colour of the bunch. But let me tell you, Red Dahlia is just perfect to touch up worn off lipstick throughout the day, or just give dry lips a pick me up. It’s my favourite for now and has been living in my purse the past few weeks. So, this is how they look in comparison to my naked lips:

Well, let’s get the elephant in the room out of the way, shall we: Between picture one and two almost all of them quietly rolled off my desk there and got themselves mashed up. Due to summer heat they were fairly soft already, so there new residence is the fridge…let’s just ignore it, thanks!

I have four of the elven colours in the range here: A nude-pink (Peony), a brighter pink (Rhubarb) and two more sultry, darker shades which I had been eyeing up since the Event.

This lip colours aren’t specifically marketed as “balms” but they feel very similar to the Tinted Balms on the lips, slightly “heavier”, more lipstick-like. They come in a longer, slimmer tube and are easier to distinguish as their caps are colour coded (can I get a woop for that!). As you can tell by reading their product description they are indeed quite minty. Personally, I love mint scents and flavours, way more than sweet flavours!, but I can understand that they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. The scent is lovely and strong but they don’t give you that tingly sensation you might know from lip “plumpers”.

Bam! The swatches surprise with a quite different sight compared to the Tinted Lip Balms – yes, it took me by surprise as well! The Lip Shimmers definitely work like lipsticks in my book, judging by pigmentation as well as longevity. As the name suggests they are fairly shiny on the lips, some with frosty shimmer, some with shimmer particles.

The first of which I found in Peony. And to be honest, it spoiled the essentially pretty colour for me. Such a frosty shimmer looks nice in the swatch, on the lips I find them dated. A surprise on the opposite side was Rhubarb. Curious as bloggers are supppsed to be, I picked up this rather bright pink shade and I must say I love it! The pigmentation is great, the colour is not too pink for my taste and even though there are fine golden particles in there, you gladly cannot feel them on the lips. Probably my favourite (summer)shade out of the bunch!

Fig and Plum I expected to be more on the purple side of the colour spectrum, but they are in fact brownish reds, which I do like to wear as well, to be fair. And how bold is Plum? Lovely! Less suited to “just slap on during the day” though.

Next to the great pigmentation and for me lovely minty scent I really only have one point of criticism to make: The twist up mechanism gave in in all four shades already! I believe you know what I mean – you twist up to a certain point and when twisting back the mechanism just won’t grip anymore and you could just twist until there’s no tomorrow. You can gently push it back into the tube though, so no mess, but not the point of a twisty tube, eh.

I barely ever use Lip Gloss, so I only picked up the one shade that seemed most promising to me: Starry Night is a bold burgundy with sparkling shimmer particles.

Nowadays I sport an almost snobbish attitude towards glosses – yes I admit it! They barely are pigmented enough for me, are super sticky in return though etc. The Burt’s Bees glosses surprised in more than one way there, they are really opaque! The swatch below shows two layers, which applied absolutely fine. I felt Starry Night is on the average side of sticky, which, however, makes it last longer (well, you know the drill, glosses usually don’t survive food or drinks!). The consistency is rather firm, which is good – too gloopy-liquidy and it messes up easily, smudging outside the lipline etc.

Since the colour is interesting I am actually going to use this gloss. Me saying this about a lip gloss, who would’ve thought…

The product design with the honeycomb print on the applicator is just cute and well made. It is almost sad how I rarely use lip gloss…however: If I was a lip gloss fanatic, would I be willing to fork out 12€ for it? Mhm!

Have you ever even noticed Burt’s Bees’ lip colours? How do you like the colour selection of each of the three products?

Praktischerweise pünktlich zum internationalen Tag des Kusses am 6. Juli habe ich heute getönten Lippenpflegeprodukte von Burt’s Bees vorbereitet.

Obwohl ich ausgesprochen gerne deckende, matte Lippenfarben trage, habe ich zwischendurch immer einen Hang zu leicht aufzutragenden, sheeren Farben. Die Tinted Lip Balms fand ich schon immer sehr gut, weshalb ich sehr gespannt war, die neuen Lip Shimmer Farben bzw. die Lip Glosse beim Beautypress Event von Nahem zu sehen. Die Philosophie der Marke Burt’s Bees finde ich sehr sympathisch, ich habe durch das Event auch einige weitere Pflegeprodukte erhalten – ich habe ja etwa schon einmal über das tolle Peeling geschrieben, die normalen Lip Balms empfinde ich als toll pflegend, kein flutschiger Film auf den Lippen. Ob es sich bei den Tinted Balms ähnlich verhält?

Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balms bringen das Thema Lippenpflege in eine neue Dimension – mit einem Hauch Farbe und einem natürlich-süßen Geschmack. Die perfekte Kombination aus natürlichem Look und optimaler Pflege: Die Tinted Lip Balms von Burt’s Bees lassen die Lippen in neun blumigen Farbnuancen erstrahlen – und pflegen sie dabei zart. Damit sind die Lip Balms eine dezente Alternative zu Lippenstift oder Gloss mit einem Plus an Pflege.

Die Farbe Hibiscus habe ich mir schon vor langer Zeit gekauft, ich fand es jedoch jetzt passend, alle drei miteinander zu zeigen.

Red Dahlia stand schon sehr lange auf meiner Wunschliste, und mit Caramel Daisy habe ich hier jetzt einen leicht getönten Balm, der solo wie auch unter oder über Lippenfarben wunderbar funktioniert. Und ja, sie sind pflegend! Ich habe bei noch keinem der Farben ein austrocknendes Gefühl erlebt.

Die Balms haben einen zarten süßlichen Geruch, den ich hier überhaupt nicht nachteilig, ja sogar als sehr angenehm empfinde – normalerweise mag ich Süße in Produkten nicht gerne. Sie schließen sehr fest, können kaum unabsichtlich in der Tasche aufgehen. Positiv: Der Drehmechanismus ist leichtgängig und hat bislang bei keiner Farbe versagt.

Überraschend wie Hibiscus scheinbar der farbstärkste der drei zu sein scheint – aber lasst euch versichern, Red Dahlia ist ein wunderbarer Ton um tagsüber abgetragenen Lippenstift aufzufrischen oder einfach trocknen Lippen einen Hauch Röte zu verleihen, zur Zeit mein Favorit und immer in der Handtasche griffbereit. Im Vergleich zu absolut blanken Lippen sieht das dann so aus:

Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer

Mit den zart schimmernden Farben seiner Lip Shimmers hat Burt’s Bees bereits viele Lippen glücklich gemacht. Nun wird das Sortiment um sechs Farben erweitert: Cherry, Plum, Strawberry, Apricot, Grapefruit und Guava heißen die neuen Trendtöne. An den natürlichen Inhaltsstoffen der Lip Shimmers hat sich selbstverständlich nichts geändert: Sheabutter und antioxidativ wirkende Fruchtsamenöle pflegen die Lippen auch hier schön zart, Pfefferminzöl sorgt für den beliebten Frischekick.

Ja, räumen wir gleich mal den Elefanten im Raum aus dem Weg: Zwischen Bild eins und Bild zwei sind sie mir von der Unterlage gerollt und haben mal ordentliche Dellen abbekommen. Durch die Wärme sehr weich wohnen sie jetzt mal im Kühlschrank…weiter im Text!

Von den inzwischen elf Farben habe ich hier vier: Einen nude-pink Ton (Peony), ein kräftigeres Pink (Rhubarb) und zwei dunkle Töne, die mir schon auf dem Event ins Auge stachen.

Diese Stifte werden grundsätzlich nicht als Balms vermarktet, fühlen sich aber sehr ähnlich auf den Lippen an wie die Tinted Balms, minimal “schwerer”. Sie sind auch länger und schlanker und einfacher zu unterscheiden, da die Kappen farbcodiert sind. Was man der Beschreibung aber schon entnehmen kann: Sie sind pfefferminzlastig. Ich liebe den Minzegeruch und das Gefühl auf den Lippen, ich weiß aber, dass das nicht jedermanns Sache ist. Ich empfinde den Geruch als angenehm kräftig, es prickelt aber nicht auf den Lippen, wie man es von “plumpers” kennt.

Die Swatches zeigen schon mal ein ganz anderes Bild als die Tinted Balms – und ja, ich war sehr überrascht! Für mich haben die Lip Shimmer schon Lippenstift-Qualitäten, sowohl in Pigmentierung als auch Haltbarkeit. Wie der Name schon verrät sind sie glänzend und manche enthalten frostigen Schimmer oder Schimmerpartikel.

Ersteren habe ich überraschend in Peony vorgefunden, was mir die – an sich schöne – Farbe etwas madig macht. Solch ein Schimmer sieht im Swatch schön aus, auf den Lippen empfinde ich ihn zu altbacken. Eine positive Überraschung war dann aber Rhubarb. Aus Neugier einen kräftigeren Pinkton ausgesucht und Rhubarb enttäuscht nicht! Sehr starke Farbabgabe, aber nicht zu schreiend Pink, es sind sehr feine Goldpartikel enthalten, die man aber Gott sei Dank nicht spürt. Wahrscheinlich mein (Sommer-)Liebling von allen getesteten!

Fig und Plum hatte ich mir persönlich etwas lilastichiger vorgestellt, es handelt sich aber eher um bräunliche Rottöne, die ich aber ebenfalls gern trage. Wie kräftig ist bitte Plum? Grandios. Dafür aber weniger geeignet, “einfach mal so schnell” aufzutragen, da man Fehler bei solche einer Farbe bemerkt.

Neben der tollen Farbabgabe und den für mich angenehmen Minzduft gibt es nur einen Kritikpunkt: Bei allen vier Stiften hat der Drehmechanismus schon aufgegeben! Ihr kennt das bestimmt – man dreht bis zu einer bestimmten Stelle und beim Zurückdrehen greift der Mechanismus nicht mehr, dreht “leer”. Man kann sie zwar sanft zurückschieben, aber das ist nicht Sinn hinter einem Dreh-Stift, nicht wahr?

Burt’s Bees Lip Gloss

Farbe und Glanz in einer ganz neuen Dimension: Das ist der neue Lip Gloss von Burt’s Bees. Da ich kaum Lip Gloss trage, habe ich mir eine Farbe mitgenommen, die mir am vielversprechendsten erschien: Starry Night ist ein kräftiges Burgunder mit funkelnden Schimmerpartikeln.

Inzwischen bin ich fast snobbish, was Glosse angeht: Geben kaum Farbe ab, sind sticky usw. Umso erstaunter kann man bei Burt’s Bees Lip Glossen feststellen, dass sie durchwegs allesamt sehr kräftig sind! Auf dem Swatch seht ihr zwei normale Schichten. Er ließ sich problemlos auftragen, ich empfand Starry Night als durchschnittlich “klebrig”, weshalb er auch gut hält (essen und trinken ausgenommen, ihr kennt das ja). Die Farbe ist relativ einfach aufzutragen – die Konsistenz ist recht fest, was ich positiv werte (sind Glosse zu “gloopy” schmiert man sich häufig richtige Batzen auf die Lippen, die dann kaum zu verteilen sind. Uah).

Da mir die Farbe gut gefällt, werde ich ihn in der Tat auch verwenden! Dass ich das einmal über einen Gloss sagen würde…

Das Produktdesign, mit Wabenmuster auf dem Applikator, finde ich sehr hübsch und gelungen. Fast schade, dass ich kaum Lip Gloss verwende…obwohl: Wäre mir ein Lip Gloss als Gloss Fan 12€ wert? Mhm!
