Maybelline Color Tattoo Leather Collection

While I have been whinging about the last Maybelline Color Tattoo Collection with a whole of three matte colours and why it never became available in Europe, I actually thought about paying the atrocious prices on ebay…well, I decided it wasn’t worth it after all. For about 20€ per jar you can easily get a MAC Painterly Paint Pot etc!

So just a few weeks after my post about the US “Dare to go Nude” Edition Maybelline released more matte Color Tattoos.

The “Leather Collection” consists of five colours which will become part of the permanent line in the USA at least. While the name suggests purely matte shades, one shimmery colours sneaked in. But pictures first!

Personally, I like the colour selection very much. Creamy Beige and Vintage Plum are just so handy. Pigmented, matte and smokey they make for a perfect base.

Looking at the collection as a whole, I find just those three shades from the Gilded in Gold collection appear to be missing: A light, matte beige, a rose-taupe and a matte brown. Quite a pity they weren’t brought back as well. Especially seeing as one quite old, previously limited shade, made it into the product line:

Chocolate Suede is a slightly shimmery dark brown with reddish flecks in it, so basically Rich Mahogany from the Runway Collection in 2012 under a new name. I swatched them next to each other – see the comparison further down – and it is indeed absolutely identical. I like using this colour, base or as a simple wash of colour, hence I am not too vexed, I can even understand the revival. Just an “easy” to buy shade. Since this is a matte collection I see no issue with adding a flat matte brown though…

Swatching very smoothly and lasting long, as per usual.

Creamy Beige is more of a light brown in my opinion. It is very smooth in application and looks almost like a satin finish in my swatch. It is quite matte on the eye though, counteracts redness or veins beautifully as well. No blotchiness whatsoever.

Next to Vintage Plum Deep Forest is probably the most “innovative” shade: A very smokey khaki green. Smooth and longlasting, also easy to build up as a alone standing colour. I would advise to works swiftly since it can turn out splotchy.

Vintage Plum is my favourite colour. As if it was made for me! It works underneath just about every single make up I like to do on a daily basis. Taupes look more purple, browns more taupe etc. Speaking of taupe: Permanent Taupe, the single matte shade in the european product line so far, I swatched next to Vintage Plum to show the purple undertone in the latter. It is very smooth and similarly to Deep Forest I like to work quickly with it since it dries down fast.

There has been a black shade among the color tattoos before named Timeless Black. While it appeared matte, it contained fine micro shimmer particles in blue, swatching blotchy as well. This time, with Dramatic Black, you get your flat matte black which actually is as smooth as you would expect it to be while being nicely pigmented. Just a perfect smokey base!

I gladly got my hands on these Color Tattoos, as I had them shopped for me. So, sadly, I cannot recommend any ebay shop or a “personal shopper” or anything like that, but I have spotted some of the shades on amazon.com as well, which could be a possibility as well for people who are interested.

So, would I recommend them?

Definitely, if you like using matte, creamy bases. Chocolate Suede and even Dramatic Black would probably be the ones that you could find with other brands.

Schon bei der letzten Maybelline Color Tattoo Collection mit drei matten Farben habe ich regelmäßig rumgequengelt, warum diese denn hier in Europa nicht erhält war. Lange habe ich überlegt, ob ich wirklich horrende Preise auf eBay zahlen möchte…habe mich aber dagegen entschieden. Für diese Preise könnte man sich dann auch wirklich einen MAC Painterly Paint Pot etc leisten!

Nach nur wenigen Wochen nach meiner Vorstellung meiner Auswahl aus der US “Dare to go Nude” Edition, war es nun wieder so weit, und Maybelline rückte mit mehr matten Farben heraus.

Die “Leather Collection” besteht aus fünf Farben und wird zumindest in den USA permanent im Sortiment erhältlich sein. Wenn auch etwas irreführend durch den Namen, enthält diese Collection eine nicht matte Farbe. Aber dazu später mehr. Erst mal Bilderschauen!

Mir gefällt die Auswahl sehr gut, gerade Farben wie Creamy Beige und Vintage Plum sind einfach absolut praktisch. Pigmentiert, matt und leicht rauchig machen sie sich perfekt als Base.

Sieht man sich diese fünf Farben gemeinsam an, fehlen mir eigentlich genau die drei Farben aus der Gilded in Gold Collection: Ein mattes, helles Beige, ein rose-taupe Ton und ein mattes Braun. Schade, dass die nicht mitübernommen wurden. Besonders, da ja eine alte Farbe den Weg ins Sortiment fand:

Bei Chocolate Suede handelt es sich um ein schimmerndes Dunkelbraun mit rötlichen Flecks, also eigentlich Rich Mahogany aus der Runway Collection aus 2012 unter neuem Namen. Ich habe beide nebeneinander geswatcht – siehe weiter unten – und es ist absolut die gleiche Farbe. Ich benutze sie sehr gerne, weshalb ich mich nicht ärgere, ich verstehe auch das Übernehmen ins Sortiment. Eine sehr “einfach” gekaufte Farbe. Mit dieser matten Kollektion hätte es aber auch einfach ein mattes Braun sein können!

Swatcht sich sehr geschmeidig und hält wie üblich toll.

Creamy Beige ist meiner Meinung nach eher ein helles Braun als ein Beige, aber das sind Details. Sehr geschmeidig und im swatcht fast satiniert. Auf dem Auge jedoch matt, gleicht die Lidfarbe gut aus. Kein Fleckigwerden zu bemerken.

Deep Forest ist neben Vintage Plum wohl die “innovativste” Farbe: Ein sehr rauchiges Khakigrün. Geschmeidig und gut haltbar, auch gut aufbaubar. Schnelles Verblenden hilft etwaigen Flecken vorzubeugen.

Vintage Plum ist meine Lieblingsfarbe. Wie für mich gemacht! Passt so ziemlich unter jedes Make Up, das ich auf täglicher Basis gerne schminke. Taupes sehen violetter aus, Brauns eher nach Taupe usw. Speaking of Taupe: Permanent Taupe, der bislang einzige matte Ton im europäischen Sortiment der Color Tattoos habe ich unten gegengeswatcht um den pflaumigen Unterton deutlicher aufzuzeigen. Sehr geschmeidig und ähnlich wie bei Deep Forest würde ich schnelles Arbeiten empfehlen, da Vintage Plum ziemlich schnell antrocknet.

Ein Schwarz gibt/gab es im Sortiment schon einmal, Timeless Black. Was sich als komplett matt vorstellte, enthielt aber Mikropartikelchen an blauem Schimmer, zudem swatchte es meist recht fleckig. Diesmal, mit Dramatic Black, bekommt man einen wirklich matten, schwarzen Cremelidschatten, der sehr geschmeidig ist und schon in der ersten Schicht gut pigmentiert ist. Ideal als Smokey Base!

Ich habe meine Color Tattoos mitgebracht bekommen, kann euch also leider keinen ebay Shop oder “Personal Shopper” empfehlen, ich habe aber einige der Farben auch auf amazon.com gefunden, das wäre als auch eine Möglichkeit.

Also, würde ich sie empfehlen?

Definitiv, wenn man gerne matte, cremige Bases verwendet. Chocolate Suede als Schokoladenton mit Schimmer oder auch Dramatic Black sind dabei wohl noch am ehesten bei anderen Marken zu finden.
