In the darkness, there appears to be a mystical range of colors. A whole other world is coming to life while you are sleeping. With our ZOEVA Smoky Palette we chose to focus on the eyes with a touch of mystery. Deep, dark,
rich midnight shades for the nocturnal beauty in you.
Resist anything except temptation.
Since my preview post on Instagram got immense response, I tried my best to hurry up and take pictures and swatch it already.
After the successful Story Palettes – I posted about the Rodeo Belle palette in March – Zoeva is now releasing two more palettes of the same make: Smoky Palette and Mixed Metals Palette.
I received the Smoky Palette for reviewing purposes and will let you look at the pictures in peace for now ?
Alrifght alright, I admit, after seeing the PR pictures for the first time my reaction was more like “woah Mixed Metals”!!11 Must.have!11!!”, but when I pulled this beauty out of my package I honestly was blown away. The sleek packaging, lightweight and without any unnecessary extras like sponge applicators (but also no mirror) made of sturdy cardboard with magnetic closure stayed exactly the same as the previous Story Palettes – but I still think it’s rather snazzy and practical. I know, mirrors are handy to have but I just judge from my point of view: At home I use my proper mirror, and travelling I mainly just use the mirror provided in the bathrooms…
The colour selection in this palette is quite neat. Balanced. There is a highlighting shade as well as cool and warm midtones. The name of the palette basically sets the tone: The bottom row especially seems predestined for smoky, sultry etc looks. The black shade is definitely not the blackest of all black shadows but quite good enough for shading the crease, for example. I feel like all colours have this “smoky-grey” thing in them, for want of better description.
Swatches
Swatches on my very pale forearm, without primer, brush dampened by wiping on moist towelette.
Wow.
Actually, that’s basically all I have to say. 8 out of 10 colours are matte – Soul Searching, an everyday-wear Beige and Dark Edge, an olive with gold on a dark base, are the only shimmer-pearl shades in the palette.
The rest is completely matte and despite that: The quality is amazing. Soft and smooth, not crumbly, pigmented but not chalky. The name “Smoky” is still just about what you get – the colours are predestined for smoking out, blowing out looks on a different colour base, from brown to plum. Whoever wants to do very precise, bright looks most likely won’t be really content with this palette – the colours are better suited to “quickly define the crease” or shade the outer V. Personally, I really like that there are midtone colours in warm (Dust & Memories [♥]) as well as cool (Sleep to Dream) undertones.
I do see myself reaching for this palette quite a lot, it’s up there with the LORAC Pro – “standard colours”, but in great quality, which can be used for more conservative environment looks like the workplace. Or intensified and blown out in dark smoky eyes.
The second new palette is directed towards lovers of more metallic shadows:
Mixed Metals Palette
Inspired by the eternal search of beauty and precious minerals that can be found inside mother earth. Our ZOEVA Mixed Metals Palette reveals treasury shades in a metal kaleidoscope of copper, platinum and aluminum. Dig into multi faceted colors with metallic reflections for precious, strong

Alloy, Bronce and Copper Plate really are calling out to me. And Rusty Steel. And Warm Silver – more due to the fact that I want to see how that would look like!

I still cannot say anything bad about this palette. Design, shade names, colour selection, blendability, everything is great. I quite like the fact that nobody felt the need to “throw in some more shimmer colours” after all – there is a great selection of that in every budget already. Solid, matte, smoky shadows, however,…!
My first make up with this Smoky Palette is still rather tame for my standards, but the blendability is great indeed! I used Soul Searching on the inner half of the lid, Smoky Wishes on the outer half, blended everything with Dust & Memories in the crease and used Relieve the Moon as a highlight.
